More than six months after they won the Stanley Cup, the Chicago Blackhawks remain an extremely popular team.
Nine Blackhawks players placed in the top 20 in their respective positions, the leading totals among the teams.
Team captain Jonathan Toews
was the leader among the Chicago group, finishing second among all forwards and fourth among all players.
Teammate Patrick Kane
was fifth among forwards, Marian Hossa
was 11th and Patrick Sharp
, third in the League with 23 goals, was 20th.
Three teams -- the Flyers, Canadiens and Red Wings -- had three forwards in the top 20. Philadelphia, however, had five forwards who finished in the top 30 in voting, including a pair in the top 10 -- team captain Mike Richards was eighth and Claude Giroux was ninth. Also finishing highly were Danny Briere (13th), Jeff Carter (21st) and Jody Shelley (28th). Shelley might be the most interesting among the vote-getters. Of his 61,149 votes, 60,615 came via text voting.
Blackhawks defense partners Duncan Keith
and Brent Seabrook
finished in the top six in voting for their position, with Keith earning a spot in the NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft powered by Cisco for finishing second in the voting for his position, and fifth among all players. Seabrook was sixth. Along with Brian Campbell, who finished 16th, the Hawks had three blueliners in the top 20. Only the Penguins, with overall leader Kris Letang, Paul Martin (eighth) and Brooks Orpik (19th) matched their total.
The Montreal Canadiens placed five of their top-six defensemen in the top 50 in voting for the position, including three in the top 30 -- rookie P.K. Subban (seventh), Andrei Markov (17th) and Josh Gorges (24th). Hal Gill finished 49th and Roman Hamrlik was 50th in the voting.
The Hawks were the only team to place two goaltenders in the top 20. Rookie Corey Crawford
placed 13th, while veteran Marty Turco finished 16th. The Capitals' tandem of Michal Neuvirth (15th) and Semyon Varlamov (24th) nearly replicated the feat. Contact Adam Kimelman at email@example.com
