Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have acquired forward Vaclav Pletka from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Eric Meloche.
Pletka, 5'11", 182 pounds, was drafted by Philadelphia in the seventh round (208th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He played in Europe during the 2005-06 season appearing in 29 games in the Czech Republic and five games in Russia. Pletka skated in 22 games for Trinec Ocelari HC tallying 14 points (nine goals, five assists) and 34 penalty minutes and in seven games for Liberec Bili Tygri HC recording three goals and eight penalty minutes. He also appeared in five playoff games for Liberec. Pletka also played in five games for the Moscow Dynamo in Russia registering two penalty minutes.
Meloche was originally acquired by the Blackhawks from Philadelphia with Patrick Sharp in exchange for Matt Ellison and a third round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft on Dec. 5, 2005.
In 2005-06, Meloche skated in 57 games in the American Hockey League totaling 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists) and 97 penalty minutes. The winger appeared in 10 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms tallying a goal, two assists and 16 penalty minutes. Meloche played 47 games with the Norfolk Admirals recording 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) and 81 penalty minutes. He also skated in four playoff games with Norfolk collecting 11 penalty minutes.
