Handzus, Khabibulin Suffer Injuries

The Chicago Blackhawks announced this evening that Center Michal Handzus suffered a torn ACL during Saturday night's game against the St. Louis Blues and will miss the rest of the season. Handzus suffered the injury on a hit that took place late in the third period.

Goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin also suffered a broken finger during Saturday night's game against St. Louis. Goaltender Sebastien Caron has been recalled from Norfolk.

The Blackhawks also assigned forward Brandon Bochenski to the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL while recalling forwards Dave Bolland and Michael Blunden.

Brandon Bochenski had been recalled on Saturday and played in Saturday night's game against the Blues before being re-assigned to Norfolk today. Bochenski played just under 9 minutes in Saturday's game and did not score.

Dave Bolland had been sidelined with a sore shoulder before playing in just one game for Norfolk and being recalled. The Blackhawks' 2nd round pick in 2004 made his professional debut against the Philadelphia Phantoms and did not score.

Michael Blunden has appeared in 5 games at Norfolk this season scoring 1 goal and 3 points with 4 penalty minutes and a +3 rating. The Blackhawks' 2nd round pick in 2005 is in his first professional season.

Sebastien Caron was signed as a free agent on August 8th. He has appeared in 3 games for the Norfolk Admirals this season with a record of 2-1-0 with a 3.65 goals against average and a .857 save percentage.
