Glenbrook's Tara Kent became a hero Wednesday night at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.
The defenseman scored the game-winning goal at the 6:49 mark in the second overtime to lift Glenbrook to a 2-1 victory over New Trier in the girls Blackhawk Cup state title game.
Kent's goal gave Glenbrook its ever first state hockey championship, and stopped the Trevians from winning their third title in as many years.
Winger Nicole Camardo scored Glenbrook's first goal on the power play in the first period. Camardo also tallied an assist on Kent's game-winner.
Barrett McBride tied the game for New Trier four minutes into the second period.
Allison Kirby made 22 saves to notch the win for Glenbrook, which put 51 shots on Trevians' goalie Mara Greenwald.
