The play, as it happened...
Scrum behind the play near the Blackhawks crease. The Kings' gruff winger, Kyle Clifford, gets tangled up with Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, and the scuffle escalates quickly. In Crawford's own words: "Their guy grabbed him and got a couple of free shots. I figured it was enough, decided to go in there and grab his head."
After the refs separated all involved parties, Crawford looked up to see Jonathan Bernier, Los Angeles' backup goalie, gliding slowly up to his own blue line, seemingly trying to engage Crawford into a battle of wits, if not mitts.
Crawford's helping hand—er, bear hug—earned him a complimentary tap from his captain.
Toews later said of the entire sequence, "That was great. I was pretty much laughing. It was one of those moments; after the play you could hear the crowd respond to it." Andrew Shaw added his thoughts: “The boys loved that on the bench, and obviously the fans did, too.” Click here
