How have the Blackhawks been spending their offseason? chicagoblackhawks.com recently sat down with your favorite players to see how their summer has gone so far and discuss some of their aspirations for the 2012-13 NHL campaign.
What did you do this summer? Did you stay home or go on vacation?
Immediately after the season, I went to Cabo, Mexico, for three or four days on my own, and then I met my cousin in Nicaragua for four or five days. One of his best friends lives down there. Central America is really cool: One of the highlights was we saw the very top watching a baseball game in their highest professional league down there, which was pretty cool. The biggest difference—because baseball is pretty much the same anywhere—was the home team’s band, which was sitting 10 rows up in a 5,000-seat stadium. They played their instruments during the whole at-bat for the home team.
Did you keep in touch with or hang out with any teammates?
I have seen Dan Carcillo the most, back in the Toronto area. Bryan Bickell hosted a golf tournament that I was at a few weeks ago.
Have you hit the ice yet this summer? Are you trying to work on any particular skills or parts of your game?
Most of it has been dry land up to this point. I’ve been on the ice working on feeling the puck and feeling the skates for now, pretty simple stuff.
What’s your personal goal for next season?
Play every game, win a championship and have as much fun as I can.
