RECAP: Blackhawks Down Devils, 8-5, on Hat Tricks from Kane, Hagel

The power play and a pair of hat tricks led the Blackhawks to victory on home ice on Friday night, 8-5 over the New Jersey Devils at the United Center.
Brandon Hagel and Patrick Kane each netted a trio of tallies on the night -- Kane's eighth regular-season hatty and Hagel's first -- to lead the offense while Alex DeBrincat and Seth Jones added a trio of assists each. Kevin Lankinen made 31 saves in his first game back after a right hand injury sidelined him for nearly five weeks.
The man-advantage for the home team went 3-for-4 on the night, matching a season high with three tallies.

Brandon Hagel was gifted a prime scoring chance in celebration of his 100th NHL game early in the first, easily picking off a missed pass at the top of the circle in the offensive zone and quickly beating Jon Gillies glove-side for a 1-0 lead.

1st - 9:41 - Jack Hughes (Ryan Graves)

New Jersey answered just over two minutes later when Ryan Graves kept a clearing attempt in at the blue line and quickly found Jack Hughes with a feed. Hughes walked towards the bottom of the far circle and cut around a sprawling Erik Gustafsson with a toe drag, elevating a shot over the shoulder of Kevin Lankinen immediately after for a 1-1 score.

1st - 18:55 - Yegor Sharangovich (Jack Hughes, Jonas Siegenthaler)

The Devils took the lead late in the opening frame when Jack Hughes corralled a missed shot behind the Blackhawks net and found Yegor Sharangovich in the slot. Sharangovich slipped a shot through a mass of bodies in front and past a screened Kevin Lankinen for a 2-1 lead.

2nd - 1:34 - Patrick Kane (Alex DeBrincat, Seth Jones) -- PP

The Blackhawks answered early in the second on the game's first power play. Alex DeBrincat found Patrick Kane with a cross-ice feed that the winger then chipped top shelf over the shoulder of Jon Gillies for a 2-2 equalizer.

2nd - 11:25 - Patrick Kane (Seth Jones, Alex DeBrincat) -- PP

Patrick Kane found his second of the game 10 minutes later, again from the right-side circle. The winger took a pass from Seth Jones at the point, assessed his options and then sent a pass towards the slot intended for Dylan Strome in front. His pass deflected off the reaching stick of Devils' defenseman Damon Severson in front and into the cage for a 3-2 lead.

2nd - 14:09 - Brandon Hagel (Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat) -- PP

The power play remained hot as the two-time goal scorer turned set-up man with Patrick Kane setting up shop along the far wall and finding Brandon Hagel in the slot. Hagel ripped a one-timer over the shoulder of Jon Gillies for a 4-2 advantage.

2nd - 17:43 - Jesper Bratt (Damon Severson, Jonas Siegenthaler)

The visitors pulled back within a goal before the end of the second as Damon Severson sprung Jesper Bratt on a breakaway in behind the Blackhawks defense. Bratt tucked a shot between the legs of Kevin Lankinen in alone for a 4-3 score.

2rd - 8:36 - Jonas Siegenthaler (Dougie Hamilton)

The game was tied for the third time on the night in the third when Jonas Siegenthaler netted his first of the season. The defenseman pinched down the boards to corral a puck ringing around the wall, quickly throwing it towards goal from distance. The rising shot found the top corner of the goal past an unsuspecting Kevin Lankinen for a 4-4 tie.

3rd - 14:04 - Kirby Dach (Connor Murphy, Caleb Jones)

Chicago took a commanding lead late with a pair of goals 41 seconds apart starting with Kirby Dash's eighth of the season. Off a 2-on-1 with Brandon Hagel, Dach kept it himself, driving to the net and cutting to the middle before tucking a backhander home for a 5-4 lead.

3rd - 14:45 - Ryan Carpenter (MacKenzie Entwistle Seth Jones)

Ryan Carpenter opened another two-goal lead on the very next shift, again on a 2-on-1, taking a feed from MacKenzie Entwistle and putting a backhander of his own over the pad of Jon Gillies for a 6-4 score.

3rd - 15:45 - Jesper Bratt (Damon Severson, Jack Hughes)

Exactly a minute later, New Jersey pulled back within a goal as Jesper Bratt netted his second of the game. Bratt snuck in to the weak side of the ice in the offensive zone unnoticed and received a Damon Severson for a point-blank tally and a 6-5 score.

Patrick Kane completed his hat trick with authority into the empty net to seal a 7-5 victory at the United Center.
