Bochenski Boosts Admirals To 3rd Straight Win

by Staff Writer / Chicago Blackhawks

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Norfolk Admirals (19-6-4-1) continued to get timely goals from their top scoring line, as Brandon Bochenski scored twice and Martin St. Pierre netted the third-period game winner in a 3-1 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (12-10-1-3) on Sunday afternoon at The Arena at Harbor Yard.

Bochenski put the Admirals ahead late in the first period. Defenseman Jerramie Domish pinched in from his usual point position to behind the goal line before dropping a pass back toward the right faceoff circle. Bochenski one-timed the puck past Bridgeport goaltender Billy Thompson at 16:16.

The Sound Tigers knotted the score at 1-1 with a shorthanded goal midway through the second stanza. Frans Nielsen stole the puck in the Norfolk zone and passed it to a streaking Allan Rourke in the high slot. Rourke sent a wrist shot past Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford at 14:15.

St. Pierre gave the Admirals the lead midway through the third period. After a turnover in the Bridgeport zone, St. Pierre sent a shot from the right circle through Thompson's legs for a 2-1 lead at 12:02 of the final frame.

Norfolk cemented the victory with 2:30 left in the game as a Sound Tigers power play expired. Danny Richmond collected a loose puck in the neutral zone and sent Bochenski on a partial breakaway. Bochenski misfired on his first shot, but his second attempt - a sharp-angle backhander from the right edge of the crease - found the top-left corner of the net at 17:30.

The Admirals penalty killing unit was a perfect 8-8 on the night - including a crucial kill in the final two minutes of the game - as Norfolk was victorious 3-1.

Crawford stopped 32 of 33 shots to earn his AHL-leading 15th victory of the season. Thompson stopped 43 of the Admirals' season-high 46 shots but picked up the loss.

Norfolk was 0-5 on the power play. Bridgeport was 0-8.

Bochenski now has points in ten straight games with the Admirals, dating back to November 12 versus Manchester. In that stretch, he has 11 goals and 13 assists. He looks to tie the franchise scoring streak record on Wednesday at Scope when the Admirals and Sound Tigers meet again at 7:15 p.m.
