Each week, the Blackhawks Blog will give you five stats you need to know about the Blackhawks this season.
1. Jonathan Toews is one of three Blackhawks and one of only 20 player in NHL history to post a +10 or better plus/minus rating in his first six seasons (since 1967-68, the first season the league began tracking the plus/minus stat).
The 24-year-old paces Chicago and is second in the NHL with a +28 plus/minus rating. Blackhawks alumni Cliff Koroll and Keith Magnuson also completed the feat during their tenure in Chicago. Of the 20 players in NHL history to do so since 1967-68, the only active skaters are Toews and Philadelphia's Simon Gagne.
2. The Blackhawks have allowed a league-low 98 goals for an average of 2.02 per game.
Chicago’s defensive efforts and goaltending success is evident in their league-leading goals-against average. Additionally, the Blackhawks’ penalty kill has gone 43-for-45 in the last 18 games. Chicago ranks fourth in the NHL with a 87.0 penalty kill percentage and shares third with five shorthanded goals.
