Former Blackhawks forward and Stanley Cup champion Brandon Bollig announced his retirement via a social media post on Wednesday night.
"The time has come to officially retire from professional hockey," he wrote. "I feel so fortunate and blessed to have the career I did. As a child, I dreamt every day of what it would be like to play in the NHL. For me, that dream became an unexpected reality."

Bollig, 31, played in 241 regular season NHL games and finished his career with 10 goals and 13 assists. In NHL postseason play, Bollig had three goals and an assist in 35 appearances. He played for the Blackhawks in at least parts of the 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, and is a 2013 Stanley Cup champion.
"I was lucky enough to be on the Chicago Blackhawks team that won the Stanley Cup in 2013. This is something I dreamt about more than anything else growing up… what would it be like to host the Stanley Cup? For me, the entire experience was indescribable and one that I will cherish for the rest of my life."
