BLOG: Dach on why he wears No. 77

The Blackhawks first-round pick explained his jersey number choice at the 2019 Blackhawks Convention

The story of Kirby Dach's jersey number began when Dach was a kid playing hockey in Western Canada and ends with Brent Seabrook.

Dach explained why he wears No. 77 during a Convention panel on the Blackhawks Originals series On the Clock, which followed the Blackhawks from Draft Lottery night to Dach's first visit to Chicago after becoming the No. 3 overall pick.

"As a kid, I always wore No. 7 growing up and then I got to Saskatoon and it was retired," Dach said. "I thought wherever I got drafted maybe I would go to No. 7, but I didn't feel like asking Seabs to move over."

Blackhawks Vice President of Digital Content Adam Kempenaar said he agreed with Dach's choice.

"I know Brent," he added. "I don't think that would go over well."

Be sure to check out the entire panel below and keep it locked on Blackhawks.com throughout the summer as more Convention panels are released ahead of the 2019-20 season.
