Blackhawks Senior Vice President/General Manager Stan Bowman addressed the Chicago media on a conference call Tuesday night, shortly after the franchise was awarded the third-overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft.
Chicago jumped nine spots from 12 to three and are selecting in that position for the first time since 2006, the year they chose Jonathan Toews.

"We're going to get a really good player there," said Bowman. "And now it's time to really dig in and really make sure we get to know these guys the best we can. You don't get a chance to draft this high very often. You get a real opportunity to get a special player. I'm just very excited for the entire organization and the city to know we're going to have a top player coming to town."
Bowman says this is an "energizing" moment for the club.
"These are the kind of moments that really energize a franchise, energize a team," he said. "Players get excited when they know they have a chance to play with the elite talents. I think it's great for everybody on our team currently and guys who are on their way to the team and for our organization, and most importantly for our fans to give them excitement for what could be in the years to come."
