BLOG: Antti Saarela, Gravel square off at World Junior Summer Showcase

by Carter Baum @CarterBaum / Blackhawks.com

Blackhawks prospects Alexis Gravel (Canada) and Antti Saarela (Finland) went head-to-head on Wednesday afternoon as the Europeans took a 8-3 win at the World Junior Summer Showcase.

After leading Canada to a 4-2 win on Tuesday with two goals and an assist, Kirby Dach was not in action against Finland.

Finland jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first, with Saarela (19) assisting on the final goal of the period. After winning an offensive zone draw to start the play, the 2019 fourth-round pick knocked a rebound free that Sampo Ranta was able to put home.

Alexis Gravel took over the Canadian crease midway through the second in what was a 7-2 game at the time. He stymied the Finnish attack until the final minutes of the game, allowing his only goal against with under four minutes to play.

Both nations are back in action on Friday as Canada takes on Sweden (12 p.m. CT) and Finland takes on the U.S. (3 p.m. CT). Both games air live on NHL Network.
