The Chicago Blackhawks, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, announced today that the team has been selected to participate in the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. The game will take place on Jan. 2, 2017, in St. Louis at Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Blues.
“It’s an honor to be selected as a participant in the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic,” President & CEO John McDonough said. “Playing the St. Louis Blues at iconic Busch Stadium is sure to add to the mystique of this intense rivalry.”
This will mark the NHL-high third Winter Classic appearance and fifth overall outdoor game for the Blackhawks organization. Chicago hosted the Detroit Red Wings in the event on Jan. 1, 2009, at Wrigley Field. The team also hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL Stadium Series at Soldier Field on March 1, 2014. The Blackhawks faced off against the Washington Capitals in the Winter Classic at Nationals Park on Jan. 1, 2015, and the Minnesota Wild in the Stadium Series at TCF Bank Stadium on Feb. 21, 2016.
More information on the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, including tickets, venue and television information will be announced at a later time.
