Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have signed free agent center Jim Dowd to a one-year contract for $525,000.
Dowd, 36, 6'1" and 190 pound center was New Jersey's 7th choice, 149th overall in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. A veteran of 13 NHL season, he also was a member of the New Jersey Devils' 1995 Stanley Cup Champion. Dowd has appeared in 511 career regular season NHL games recording 57 goals and 146 assists for 203 points and 289 penalty minutes while skating for the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild and the Montreal Canadiens. Dowd has also appeared in 62 career playoff games recording six goals and 12 assists for 18 points and 22 penalty minutes.
Dowd played in 69 games while splitting time between Minnesota and Montreal during the 2003-04 NHL season, recording seven goals and 22 assists for 29 points and 44 penalty minutes. He also played in 11 playoff games for the Canadiens notching two assists and two penalty minutes.
Dowd played overseas last season (2004-05) for the Hamburg Freezers in Germany appearing in 20 games recording four goals and nine assists for 13 points and 12 penalty minutes.
