Blackhawks select eight players in 2013 NHL Draft

The Chicago Blackhawks drafted forward Ryan Hartman (30th overall), defenseman Carl Dahlstrom (51st overall), center John Hayden (74th overall), defenseman Robin Norell (111th overall), center Tyler Motte (121st overall), center Luke Johnson (134th overall), center Anthony Louis (181st overall) and defenseman Robin Press (211th overall) at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Sunday.

Hartman, a West Dundee, Ill., native, shared third on the Plymouth Whalers with 60 points (23G, 37A) in 56 regular-season games and ranked seventh in the Ontario Hockey League with a team-high 120 penalty minutes. The 18-year-old forward native ranked sixth on the team with a +29 plus/minus rating and fifth with 1.07 point-per-game average in his first OHL season. Hartman tallied six points (4G, 2A), a +4 rating and 16 PIM in nine postseason appearances. He won a gold medal at the 2012 U-18 World Championship in the Czech Republic, posting six points (2G, 4A) in as many games. Hartman recorded 76 points (38G, 38A) and 228 PIM in 115 games with the U.S. National Team Development Program across two seasons.

Dahlstrom, 18, notched 17 points (7G, 10A) and a +23 rating in 40 regular-season games with Sweden’s Linkoping. The Stockholm, Sweden, native added two points (1G, 1A) in seven postseason appearances. Dahlstrom registered 18 points (4G, 14A) in 44 regular-season games and three assists in four postseason appearances across the previous two seasons with Djurgarden.

Hayden, 18, ranked sixth on the USNTDP U-18 club with 16 goals and added 15 assists for 31 points in 51 regular-season games. The Greenwich, Conn., native notched two points (1G, 1A), including one game-winning goal, in four games during the 2013 Four Nations Tournament. Hayden tallied 26 points (11G, 15A) in 55 games with the U-17 team during the 2011-12 regular season in his USNTDP debut. The center has committed to Yale University.

Norell, 18, posted 22 points (11G, 11A) and a +16 rating through 63 regular-season games with Sweden’s Djugarden this past year. The Stockholm, Sweden, native added three points (2G, 1A) and a +9 rating in 11 playoff games. He recorded 11 points (2G, 9A) and a +17 rating in 47 regular-season games with Djurgarden across the previous two seasons.

Motte, 18, shared the team lead with 26 goals and added 18 helpers for 44 points in 63 regular-season games with the USNTDP U-18 club. The St. Clair, Mich., native paced the team with a +24 rating and six game-winning goals. He registered a +1 rating in four games at the 2013 Four Nations Tournament. Motte combined for 42 points (26G, 16A) in 55 games with the U-18 and U-17 clubs in his USNTDP debut in 2011-12. The center has committed to the University of Michigan.

Johnson, 18, ranked fifth on the Lincoln Stars with 27 assists and sixth with 46 points while registering a +17 rating in 57 regular-season games. The Grand Forks, N.D. native led the team with nine power-play goals and shared fourth with four game-winning goals. He tallied 11 shots on goal in five postseason games. Johnson ranked third on the team with 20 goals and shared second with 55 points (20G, 35A) in as many games during the 2011-12 regular season. He posted two points (1G, 1A) in eight playoff appearances.

Louis, 18, shared third on the USNTDP club with 47 points, ranked fourth with 19 goals and ranked second with 28 assists in 59 regular-season games with the U-18 team. The Winfield, Ill., native ranked second on the club at the Four Nations Tournament with five points (3G, 2A) in four games. Louis won a gold medal at the 2012 U-18 World Championship, tallying one assist in six games. He combined for 42 points (27G, 15A) in 56 games with the U-18 and U-17 clubs during 2011-12 in his USNTDP debut. The center has committed to Miami University.

Press, 18, tallied 20 points (9G, 11A) in 67 regular-season games with Sweden’s Sodertalje. He added three assists in 11 postseason appearances this year. Press registered 73 points (30G, 43A) in 92 regular-season games with Almtuna across the previous two seasons.
