The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled forward Ben Smith
from the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs and placed forward Patrick Sharp
on Injured Reserve.
Smith, 23, has recorded one goal in seven regular-season games with Chicago this season. Additionally, the Avon, Connecticut, native shares the Rockford team lead with five power-play goals and ranks second on the club with 0.95 points-per-game in 19 AHL tilts. Originally selected by the Blackhawks in the sixth round (169th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Smith has registered 10 goals, eight assists and four penalty minutes this year for the IceHogs.
Sharp, 30, ranks second on the Blackhawks and sixth in the National Hockey League with 20 goals this season. The Thunder Bay, Ontario, native also ranks third on the club with 40 points (20G, 20A) and second with a +18 plus/minus rating in 42 games this year.
The Blackhawks will host the Columbus Blue Jackets at the United Center on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast locally on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and can be heard on WGN Radio AM-720.
