Blackhawks recall Jeff Taffe, place Ryan Johnson on Injured Reserve

The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled forward Jeff Taffe (TAYF) from the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs and placed forward Ryan Johnson on Injured Reserve.
Taffe, 30, leads Rockford with 15 goals, including a team-high seven power-play markers, and 34 points (15G, 19A) in 44 regular-season tilts this year. After two assists on Friday night, he has registered a point in six consecutive games (3G, 5A) and eight of his last nine (5G, 5A) for the IceHogs.
The Hastings, Minnesota, native recorded two points (G, A) and four penalty minutes in 21 regular-season games with the Florida Panthers last season. Originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the first round (30th overall) of the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Taffe has registered 21 goals and 23 assists in 174 career regular-season NHL contests over parts of seven seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes (2002-04, 2005, 2006-07), New York Rangers (2005), Pittsburgh Penguins (2007-09) and Florida (2009-10).
Taffe also tallied 56 points (28G, 28A) in 61 regular-season contests, and added seven points (G, 6A) in seven postseason tilts last year with the AHL’s Rochester Americans. He has notched 343 points (152G, 191A) in 423 regular-season AHL games with Springfield, Utah, Hartford, San Antonio, Wilkes-Barre, Rochester and Rockford, as well as 21 points (6G, 15A) in 24 career AHL postseason tilts.
Johnson, 34, has recorded two penalty minutes and seven shots on goal in nine regular-season contests with the Blackhawks this season, his first in the organization.
Taffe will wear jersey number 23 tonight when the Blackhawks visit the Phoenix Coyotes at 7:00 P.M. at Jobing.com Arena. The game can be seen locally on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and 720 WGN.
