The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled forward Jimmy Hayes
from the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs and assigned forward Brandon Pirri
Hayes, 22, ranks third on the IceHogs with 13 assists and paces club rookies with 18 points (5G, 13A) in 28 games in his first full professional campaign, and shares third on the team with a +1 plus/minus rating. Originally selected in the second round (60th overall) of the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, he was acquired by Chicago via trade on June 26, 2010. In three seasons at Boston College prior to signing with the Blackhawks, the Dorchester, Massachusetts, native posted 42 goals and 39 assists in 117 collegiate tilts, and helped lead the Eagles to the 2010 NCAA championship.
Pirri, 20, has registered two assists and a +3 rating in four contests with the Blackhawks this year and paced Chicago with four goals and five points in four games during the 2011 preseason. The Toronto native also leads the IceHogs with 13 goals, 31 points and a +6 plus/minus rating in 28 AHL tilts.
The Blackhawks will host the Detroit Red Wings at the United Center on Friday, Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and can be heard on WGN Radio AM-720.
