General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have re-signed forward Rene Bourque to a 2-year deal.
Bourque, 24, was a rookie last season with the Blackhawks appearing in 77 games and scoring 16 goals, including 4 power play goals and 2 game winners, while adding 18 assists for 34 points with 56 penalty minutes and a +4 rating. His 34 points ranked him fourth on the team in scoring. His 34 points also ranked him 22nd in the NHL among rookie scoring leaders.
Prior to joining the Blackhawks, Bourque played for the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL in the 2004-05 season season where he set a club record scoring 33 goals while also leading the team with 60 points. He was named to the AHL All-Star Team and won the hardest shot contest with a shot of 99.8 mph. in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition. He was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team
Bourque played his collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin where he led the Badgers in goals and points in each of his last two seasons. In his career, he appeared in 152 games in his four seasons at the University of Wisconsin scoring 57 goals and 40 assists for 97 points and 172 penalty minutes.
