by Staff Writer / Chicago Blackhawks

General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have assigned defenseman Dustin Byfuglien to Norfolk in the AHL.

Byfuglien scored a key goal in the third period last night at Nashville to tie the game at 2-2 as the Blackhawks rallied to defeat the Predators 3-2 in a shootout.

Byfuglien returns to Norfolk tonight and will be in the lineup as the Admirals host Wilkes-Barre. The Admirals currently have 103 points which is second best in the AHL behind only Hershey who has 104 points. Wilkes-Barre is third with 100 points.

Byfuglien has spent most of this season playing at Norfolk in the American Hockey League. He has appeared in 57 games for the Admirals scoring 15 goals, including 7 on the power play, while adding 27 assists for 42 points with 132 penalty minutes and a +11 rating.

Byfuglien was the Blackhawks' 8th round pick (245th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, he appeared in 25 games for the Blackhawks and scored three goals, including the game winner in his first ever NHL game against Nashville, while adding two assists for five points with 24 penalty minutes.
