As part of the Chicago Blackhawks participation with the NHL and NHLPA in Hockey Fights Cancer, the Blackhawks will host Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night on Tuesday, October 23 during a 7:30 p.m. game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
In support of the effort to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, the Blackhawks are participating in several NHL sponsored programs. During the month of October, all Blackhawks players have been wearing a pink Hockey Fights Cancer decal on the back left area of their helmets.
For the October 23 game, Blackhawks Head Coach Denis Savard and his staff will be wearing pink Hockey Fights Cancer ties. The pink ties, along with pink caps for ladies and the book Relfections on a Hockey Season: The 2007 NHL Year in Photographs will be available at Fandemonium on the main concourse of the United Center and HawkQuarters, located at 333 N. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these items will benefit Hockey Fights Cancer.
Individual Blackhawks players have also contributed to Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month. On Monday, October 15, Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp visited cancer patients at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago.
