Blackhawks Extend Savard's Contract

by Staff Writer / Chicago Blackhawks
General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have extended the contract of head coach Denis Savard through the 2007-08 season.

Savard was named the 36th head coach in Blackhawk team history on November 27th. Since taking over as head coach, the Blackhawks have posted a 3-0-0 record with victories over Dallas 2-1, St. Louis 5-2, and Nashville 4-3 in overtime.

In winning his first three games as head coach, Savard became only the second coach in Blackhawks history to accomplish that feat. Sid Abel was the only other Blackhawks head coach to win his first three games back in the 1952-53 season. No coach in the 80-year club history has ever won his first four games.

Savard and the Blackhawks will try to win their fourth in a row tonight as they visit the Wild in Minnesota.
