The Chicago Blackhawks have clinched a spot in the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, marking the franchise’s fourth consecutive postseason berth, as a result of the club’s 4-3 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues and the Phoenix Coyotes’ x-x regulation loss against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.
The 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs will mark the first time in 15 years the Blackhawks will make four straight postseason appearances. Chicago currently ranks sixth in the Western Conference and seventh overall in the NHL with 95 points (43-26-9) with four games remaining on their regular-season slate.
The Blackhawks reached the Western Conference Finals in 2009, won the Stanley Cup in 2010 and fell in a seven-game Western Conference Quarterfinals series in 2011.
