Blackhawks activate Kruger, assign Smith to Rockford

The Chicago Blackhawks have activated forward Marcus Kruger from Injured Reserve and assigned forward Ben Smith to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.

Kruger, 21, has tallied three goals and seven assists in 34 games this year with the Blackhawks in his first full NHL season. Over the last two years the Stockholm, Sweden, native has recorded ten points (3G, 7A) and 16 penalty minutes in 41 regular-season contests, and one assist and a+2 rating in five Stanley Cup Playoffs tilts.

Smith, 23, has recorded two goals in nine regular-season games with Chicago this year. Additionally, the Avon, Connecticut, native has tallied ten goals, including a team-high five power-play markers, and eight assists in 19 AHL contests with Rockford.

The Blackhawks will take on the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 11:30 a.m. CT. The game will be broadcast nationwide on NBC and can be heard locally on WGN Radio AM-720.
