Blackhawks Acquire Nikita Alexeev For Karl Stewart

General Manager Dale Tallon announced this afternoon that the Blackhawks have acquired right wing Nikita Alexeev from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Karl Stewart and a 6th round pick (previously acquired from the Florida Panthers) in 2008.
Alexeev, 25, stand at 6.05 and weighs in at 227 pounds. He has appeared in 63 games for the Lightning this season scoring 10 goals and adding 11 assists for 21 points with 12 penalty minutes and a +10 rating. He was originally Tampa Bay's 1st round selection, 8th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft out of Erie in the Ontario Hockey League.
A native of Murmansk, Russia, Alexeev has appeared in 144 career NHL games scoring 18 goals and adding 17 assists for 35 points with 28 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 11 career playoff games scoring one goal.
Karl Stewart was acquired by the Blackhawks off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 26th. He had appeared in 37 games for the Blackhawks this season scoring two goals and adding three assists for five points with 55 penalty minutes.
