NORFOLK ADMIRALS (4) VS. WORCESTER SHARKS (2)
NORFOLK, VA - Jonas Nordqvist, Cam Barker, Michael Blunden and David Bolland each scored as the Norfolk Admirals (15-5-2-1) spread out the offense on Saturday night, defeating the Worcester Sharks (10-8-1-3) by a 4-2 score at Norfolk Scope.
Nordqvist got the Admirals on the board first on the power play. He sent a slapshot from the top of right circle through a screen and Worcester goaltender Thomas Greiss' legs for his fourth goal of the year at 12:36.
Norfolk's lead grew to three goals early in the second period. Troy Brouwer set up the Admirals' second goal by sending a pass from behind the goal line out to the right point. Barker one-timed the pass through traffic at 5:38 for his second goal of the season.
Exactly eight minutes into the second stanza, Blunden scored his fourth marker of the campaign when he took a feed from Jordan Hendry and sent a wrister from the top of the right circle past Greiss.
The Sharks cut the lead to two goals on the power play when Riley Armstrong batted a bouncing puck past Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford.
The goal with 4:33 left in the second period looked like it might give Worcester the momentum heading into the final frame. However, the Admirals re-established their three-goal lead in the waning moments of the period. Barker sent another slap shot from the point that Greiss stopped.
But Bolland was ready for the rebound in the crease, and he sent the puck past Greiss with only three-tenths of a second remaining. Bolland's second goal of the season gave Norfolk a 4-1 lead at the second intermission.
Armstrong scored another power play goal with 5:43 remaining in the final frame. However, it would be the only puck that got past Corey Crawford in the period. Norfolk clamped down defensively with several big hits in the period to shut down the Sharks.
Corey Crawford (31 shots, 29 saves) earned the win. Thomas Greiss (33 shots, 29 saves) picked up the loss.
Norfolk and Worcester were both 2-4 on the power play.
The Admirals lace up the skates at Scope on Wednesday night for an important East Division match. The Hershey Bears provide the opposition in the first of five December contests between the division leaders. Opening faceoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
