He was an All-Star for the Eastern Conference in 2004 and finished the season tied for 11th among league defensemen with 44 points. Only two blueliners in the league bettered his +29 plus/minus. Now Adrian Aucoin is a Chicago Blackhawk. Press Release
The Blackhawks made their first big free agent splash Tuesday, inking the former New York Islander to a four-year deal. A right-handed defenseman, Aucoin jumps to the top of Chicago's depth chart on defense, where he's a likely candidate to be paired with one of the Hawks' off-season free agent acquisitions from last summer, Jassen Cullimore.
"Adrian Aucoin was one of the top players we had targeted," said general manager Dale Tallon. "He's a smart hockey player, logs lots of ice time, and is a solid two-way player who has an excellent shot from the point. He possesses excellent leadership skills and is a character player. He is also a classy individual who fits in perfectly with our organization."
