Admirals Tame Tigers With Late Comeback

by Staff Writer / Chicago Blackhawks

BRIDGEPORT, CT - Brandon Bochenski scored twice as the Norfolk Admirals (29-8-4-1) erased a third period deficit to defeat the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (16-17-1-4) 3-2 on Monday afternoon in Bridgeport.

Bochenski's 30th goal of the season put the Admirals ahead 5:20 into the first period. He sped into the attacking zone and sent a shot from the left faceoff circle through Sound Tigers goaltender Billy Thompson's leg pads.

Bridgeport evened the score at 1-1 just over two minutes later. Brandon Nolan emerged with the puck from behind the net at the bottom of the left circle and shot it over Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford's right shoulder at 7:39.

A center ice turnover led to a Sound Tigers shorthanded goal late in the second stanza. Frans Nielsen broke in on Crawford and deked forehand before lifting a backhand shot over Crawford's left leg at 16:34. The Sound Tigers led 2-1 after forty minutes of hockey.

A two-on-one early in the third period led to an Admirals goal and a tied game. Danny Richmond chipped a pass from the right circle over a defender's stick to a waiting Colin Fraser in the slot. Fraser sent the puck over Thompson's right leg at 3:18.

Bochenski scored the eventual game-winner on the power play four minutes later. Bruno St. Jacques sent a pass from the high slot toward Bochenski at the left circle. The Admirals' scoring leader sent a one timer over Thompson's left arm at 7:45.

Crawford (32 shots, 30 saves) picked up his AHL-leading 24th win of the season. Thompson (36 shots, 34 saves) took the loss.

The Admirals were 1-10 on the power play. Bridgeport was 0-7. The Admirals' penalty kill is now 64-66 (96.9%) in its past 14 games.
