NORFOLK (5) AT BINGHAMTON SENATORS (2)
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Norfolk Admirals (16-5-3-1) had four players with multiple points in a 5-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators (7-15-1-2) on Friday night. Troy Brouwer and David Bolland each had a goal and an assist, and Carl Corazzini and Bryan Bickell had two assists apiece in the victory at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The Admirals used a pair of first period power play goals to take a 2-0 lead in the opening period. Just 3:11 into the game, Troy Brouwer sent a pass from the wall along the hashmarks of the right circle to Jonas Nordqvist at the opposite-side post. Nordqvist converted the back-door play by tapping the puck into a half-empty net for his sixth goal of the season.
Ten minutes later, Bryan Bickell attempted a similar power play cross-crease pass to Nordqvist. A Senators defender blocked the pass, and the puck stopped at the goalmouth. Brouwer pinched in from the slot and roofed the puck past Binghamton goaltender Kelly Guard at 14:22 for his thirteenth goal of the season.
Norfolk stretched their lead to 3-0 just as a power play opportunity expired. Matt Keith chipped a backhanded pass across the slot toward David Bolland. Bolland corralled the puck and sent a backhander top shelf, glove side at 3:15 for his third goal of the season.
Binghamton got on the board just under two minutes later. A bouncing puck at the top of the slot wound up on the blade of the Senators' leading goal scorer, Jeff Heerema, who sent a shot under the crossbar at 4:58.
Jordan Hendry restored the Norfolk three-goal lead with his first goal of the season at 12:50. He took a slap shot from the blue line that beat Guard along the ice stick side. The Admirals led 4-1 after forty minutes.
Binghamton made it a two-goal game 4:43 into the final frame. Jamie Allison scored a shorthanded goal with a long-distance slap shot that beat Admirals goaltender Sebastien Caron glove side high.
Norfolk captain Craig MacDonald answered with a shorthanded goal of his own just under ten minutes later, his fifth goal as an Admiral this season. After breaking in two-on-one with Colin Fraser, MacDonald sent a backhander through Guard's legs at 13:38 to cap scoring in the 5-2 Norfolk victory.
Caron (34 shots, 32 saves) picked up the victory. Guard (36 shots, 31 saves) got the loss.
Norfolk was 2-8 on the power play. Binghamton was 0-6 with the man advantage.
The Admirals take the bus to Hershey for a 7:00 game tomorrow night against the Bears.
