1-2. C Jonathan Toews and RW Patrick Kane
Want a sneak peek at the Blackhawks' future? The current scrimmage lineup has 2006 3rd overall pick Toews centering a line with 2007 1st overall pick Patrick Kane at right wing. The beginning of a beautiful friendship? Blackhawk fans can dream.
3. RW Akim Aliu
The 6-2 Aliu is listed at 200 pounds, but add at least an extra 20 for the chip he's carrying on his shoulder after dropping to the Blackhawks at #56 in the 2nd round of the 2007 Entry Draft. Question marks about his character are the only reason this first-round talent didn't go in the top 30, but Dale Tallon and his staff loved the intelligence and maturity he exhibited in pre-draft interviews. The Nigerian-born winger had 20 goals in 53 games last year for Sudbury in the OHL and will play for London this season.
4. C Petri Kontiola
The skilled Finnish center had, by his standards, a disappointing 2006 camp. Look for the 2004 7th rounder to rebound this year as he makes a push for a roster spot this season. Kontiola led Tappara in points with 47 (12-35) in 51 games last season and had 7 points in 9 games for Finland at the World Championships.
5. G Mike Brodeur
Brodeur had a stellar first half to last year's camp and was easily the top goalie on the ice. He spent the second half watching after re-aggravating a back injury that resulted in surgery and him missing the bulk of last season. Now recovered, Brodeur will look to improve on his 4-3-0 record in 10 games with Norfolk last year.
6-7. Richard Greenop and Brennan Turner
If a good fight is what you like, these are your two most likely pugilists. Greenop, the Hawks' final selection in the 2007 Draft, racked up 149 PIMs in 48 OHL games with Windsor last season and was rated by the Hawks as the toughest player in the draft. Turner doesn't get many opportunities to drop the gloves playing for Yale in the ECAC, but had 207 PIMs in 41 games with Notre Dame of the SJHL during his draft year.
