NORFOLK (5) at PHILADELPHIA PHANTOMS (2)
PHILADELPHA, PA - Pierre Parenteau had a four-point night as the Norfolk Admirals (38 -14-4-1) rebounded from two subpar performances with a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phantoms (20-28-2-5) on Sunday evening at the Wachovia Spectrum.
After a scoreless opening period, the Admirals took command of the game in the second period. Just 48 seconds into the period, Dustin Byfuglien sent a shot from the bottom of the left circle that Phantoms netminder Scott Munroe initially stopped. Byfuglien swept the rebound through Munroe's pads for a 1-0 Norfolk lead.
That lead doubled nearly six minutes later. Kris Versteeg made a steal along the right wall and sent a pass to Jonas Nordqvist in the right circle. Nordqvist bounced a backhand shot off Munroe's body and into the net at 6:25.
A goal by Troy Brouwer three minutes later gave Norfolk a 3-0 lead. David Bolland sent a pass from behind the goal line to Brouwer in the slot. Brouwer beat Munroe high at 9:36.
Parenteau gave the Admirals a four-goal lead nearly eight minutes into the final frame. He backhanded a loose puck into the cage in front of a tardy Munroe at 7:38.
Philadelphia got on the scoreboard after Darren Reid was taken down on a shorthanded breakaway at 15:04. Reid scored on the resulting penalty shot. Nordqvist's second goal of the game sealed the deal for Norfolk. Parenteau sent a cross-ice pass to Nordqvist at the right circle. Nordqvist one-timed it home at 15:55 for a 5-2 Norfolk victory. Pete Zingoni scored at 16:27 to close out scoring at 5-2 in favor of the Admirals.
Crawford (37 shots, 35 saves) earned the victory to snap a personal three-game losing streak. Munroe (31 shots, 26 saves) got the loss.
The Admirals were 1 -8 on the power play. Philadelphia was 0-5.
The Admirals will head to Springfield on Wednesday night to continue a season-long ten-game road trip with a contest against the Falcons.
