3 Stars of the Week: Teravainen heats up for Rockford

1st Star: C Teuvo Teravainen, Rockford IceHogs (AHL)
The Line: 3GP, 1G, 2A

Teravainen sparked Rockford’s lone win this week, a 3-2 result over Texas on Sunday, with a pair of helpers in the game; the 2012 first-round pick now shares first on the team with eight assists this season. Teravainen also scored the lone goal in Rockford’s 2-1 loss at Milwaukee on Saturday for his second tally of the season.

2nd Star: D T.J. Brennan, Rockford IceHogs (AHL)
The Line: 3GP, 1G, 2A

Brennan moved to third in team scoring after picking up three points in three games for the IceHogs. The 25-year-old assisted on Teravainen’s goal at Milwaukee on Saturday, then posted a goal and an assist the next night – including the game-winner – against Texas. Brennan now shares fifth among league defensemen with 11 points (3G, 8A) in 16 games.

3rd Star: D Robin Press, Sodertalje (Allsvenskan)
The Line: 2GP, 2G, 1A

Press had a big week offensively for Sodertalje last week, tallying in each of his two contests and adding an assist. The 2013 seventh-round pick opened the scoring in a 4-1 win over Timra on Tuesday with his sixth goal of the season, then collecting a goal and a helper in a 5-4 win over Rogle on Friday. Press leads the team with 21 points (7G, 14A) in 23 games this season.

Honorable mentions: C Vincent Hinostroza, University of Notre Dame (H-EAST); C Anthony Louis, Miami of Ohio (NCHC)

Hinostroza picked up two points over the weekend to help Notre Dame split a weekend set at Merrimack. The 2012 sixth-round pick opened the scoring in a 3-2 overtime win on Friday, then assisted on ND’s only goal in a 4-1 loss the next night. Hinostroza ranks fourth on the team with nine points (2G, 7A) in 12 games this season.

Louis tallied two points as Miami left Grand Forks with a weekend split with the University of North Dakota. The 2013 selection assisted on the RedHawks’ opening goal on Friday in a 3-2 victory, then netted the only goal in a 4-1 loss the next night. Louis ranks fifth with nine points (2G, 7A) in 12 games this season.

  • Matheson Iacopelli remains at the top of the USHL goal-scoring charts after tallying his 11th of the season in a 9-3 loss to the USNTDP on Thursday; he added an assist in the contest and now has 14 points this season... Jack Ramsey scored the game-winning goal for Penticton in a 4-2 win over the Vernon Vipers on Thursday; the 2014 seventh-round pick added an assist the next night in a 4-1 win over Cowichan Valley.

  • North Dakota announced that forward Nick Schmaltz, the Blackhawks’ 2014 first-round selection, would be out indefinitely with injury sustained the previous weekend... Teammate Nick Mattson, a senior defenseman, posted an assist in his only appearance this week, ND’s 4-1 win over Miami on Saturday.

  • Michigan sophomore Tyler Motte scored his third goal of the season on Friday in a 5-2 win over American International, then notched a power-play assist the next night in a 6-3 victory over AIC. The 2013 fourth-round pick has five points (3G, 2A) in nine games this season... Fellow 2013 pick John Hayden continues to lead Yale University offensively after picking up a pair of assists in a 4-1 win at Dartmouth on Friday.

  • Ohio State defenseman Sam Jardine collected a helper in both games last weekend, as the Buckeyes split a weekend series with Bowling Green; he ranks third on the team with five assists in nine games... Goaltender Matt Tomkins won his lone start, making 24 saves on 26 shots to record a 3-2 victory over BGS on Friday. The 2012 seventh-round pick has a 2-3-1 record with a 2.30 goals-against average and .910 save percentage this season.

  • Phillip Danault tallied the only goal for Rockford in a 4-1 loss to Milwaukee on Friday; he shares fourth on the team with 10 points (3G, 7A) this season... IceHogs points leader Mark McNeill picked up an assist on Danault’s goal on Friday, but had his career-long six-game point streak snapped the next night when he had to leave the game early with an injury... After being reassigned by Chicago, Peter Regin posted a pair of helpers in Rockford’s 3-2 win over Texas on Sunday... Brandon Mashinter was named First Star of the Game on Sunday after collecting a goal and an assist... Ville Pokka added two assists in three games last week, and now has five points (2G, 3A) in his first 10 AHL games.
