Nigel Williams and the Belleville Bulls recently wrapped up their season at the 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup in Kitchener, Ontario.
Belleville dropped its opener to the Western Hockey League Champion Spokane Chiefs by a 3-0 count before bouncing back with a 6-3 win over the QMJHL’s Gatineau Olympiques.
Williams was held off the scoreboard against the Chiefs, but registered team-highs with three points and a +5 rating versus Gatineau. In the contest against the Olympiques, Williams played a part in a trio of unanswered third-period tallies. The defenseman first assisted on a pair of goals 2:31 apart and then notched a power-play marker of his own at 17:43 to ice the game.
The Bulls then pulled off a dramatic, 4-3 come-from-behind victory against the Kitchener on Wednesday, May 21, in the final round-robin matchup of the Memorial Cup, setting up a rematch with the Rangers in the semifinal round.
However, the Bulls’ season came to a close with a 9-0 loss to Kitchener on Friday, May 23rd.
Williams finished the event tied for fifth on Belleville’s scoring chart with three points (1g/2a) in four games to go along with eight penalty minutes.
Sunday, in the championship game of the 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup, Spokane topped Kitchener by a 4-1 count to claim the title.
