What's Leo Listening To?

by - Official Site of the Colorado Avalanche / Colorado Avalanche
Avalanche defenseman Jordan Leopold has been a music lover all his life. In this exclusive, Leo discusses how his interest in music began and provides a list of his ten favorite pre-game tunes.

Music has always played an important role in my life. I grew up as an only child in an older neighborhood where much of my time was spent alone. Usually it was me and the stereo shooting hoops, shooting pucks or hitting balls off the tee.

Some of the best times in my past were spent with music in the background keeping me company.  Today I listen to music in the car and at home, as many of us do.

But there is another place for music in my day. I prepare for games with the same routine and it involves my iPod, which contains my favorite pre-game preparation songs. These are not my everyday songs. This is what gets the adrenaline flowing and helps me focus for what is to come.  Listed are the ten pre-game songs I listen to before every game:

Artist: Bush
Title: Machinehead
Album: Sixteen Stone

*I first heard this in high school and have loved it ever since.

Artist: Papa Roach
Title: Forever
Album: The Paramour Sessions

*The slow beginning building to the fast chorus gets me fired up.

Artist: Linkin Park
Title: Bleed It Out
Album: Minutes to Midnight

*My go-to song. I sing this to myself when I need a focus check.

Artist: Disturbed
Title: Down With The Sickness
Album: The Sickness

*This was a favorite in college. Crazy noises and guitar. Love it.

Artist: Dr. Dre
Title: Nuthin’ But A “G” Thang
Album: The Chronic

*Don’t ask me why. This was my introduction to rap/hip-hop.

Artist: Nickelback
Title: Never Again
Album: Silver Side Up

*These guys are huge hockey fans and they have some great tunes. This song is just one of many!

Artist: Rage Against The Machine
Title: Renegades Of Funk
Album: Renegades

*What can I say? One of the best ever.

Artist: Hoobastank
Title: Same Direction
Album: The Reason

*Great upbeat song that really gets the juices flowing.

Artist: Foo Fighters
Title: The Pretender
Album: Echoes Silence Patience And Grace

*The most recent song on my list. Love the slow start to the heavy beat.

Artist: System Of A Down
Title: Revenga
Album: Mezmerize

*Some nutty music, but perfect for what I’m going for. Wow!

****Honorable Mention…Any Metallica!
