Training Camp: Day 2 Scrimmage Recaps

TEAM BLUE 6, TEAM GREY 1

45:00 – Peter Budaj starts in goal for Grey, while Trevor Cann is in net for Blue

40:53 – Cody McLeod rattles the glass with a hit on Kevin Shattenkirk after the defenseman dumped the puck into his offensive zone

40:30 – TEAM BLUE GOAL. Brandon Yip strikes with an early goal to give his squad a 1-0 lead

37:28 – TEAM GREY GOAL. Milan Hejduk and Matt Duchene head up the ice on a 2-on-1 break. Duchene takes a pass from Hejduk and beats Cann from the right wing. All tied up at 1-1

32:37 – Blue defenseman Scott Hannan finds himself with a clear shooting lane from the top right circle, but his shot is stopped by Budaj

28:10 – TEAM BLUE GOAL. Mark Olver sends a centering feed to Julian Talbot, who gives Blue a 2-1 advantage

23:18 – Duchene registers a takeaway from Greg Mauldin in Grey’s defensive zone, then skates around Stefan Elliott at the blue line before flying up the ice on a 2-on-1 with Zach Cohen. However, Kevin Montgomery is able to break up the possible threat with a diving effort

22:30 – Goalie changes: John Grahame comes in for Grey, Calvin Pickard for Blue

21:26 –TEAM BLUE GOAL. Ryan O’Reilly has Michael Bournival with him on a 2-on-1, but elects to keep the puck himself and snipes a shot past Grahame. The score is now 3-1 in favor of Blue

17:10 – Hejduk attempts a backhander from just outside the crease, but Pickard turns it away with a toe save

14:48 – Goalie change: Bacashihua takes over for Grahame in the Grey net

14:20 – TEAM BLUE GOAL. Yip gets his second goal of the game, knocking home a puck from the goalmouth to give Blue a 4-1 lead. Assists to Mauldin and Kevin Shattenkirk

11:05 – Blue’s Harrison Reed is awarded a penalty shot after a roughing call on Team Grey, but Reed hits the pipe on his attempt

4:05 – Duchene trips O’Reilly, leading to another Blue penalty shot. Bacashihua makes a right pad save on O’Reilly’s attempt

3:10 – TEAM BLUE GOAL. Bournival gives Blue a 5-1 lead when he deposits the rebound of a Ray Macias  point shot

2:26 – TEAM BLUE GOAL. David Jones rounds out the scoring, as he is left all alone in front, gets the puck from Bournival and fires a shot off the post and in. Final score, Blue 6, Grey 1

TEAM BLACK 5, TEAM GREY 1
45:00 – Peter Budaj in net for Grey, Craig Anderson for Black

41:33 – T.J. Galiardi steals the puck from Milan Hejduk at the blue line and goes on a 2-on-1 with Chris Stewart. Galiardi makes a nice saucer pass and Stewart gets his stick on it, but Budaj makes a pad save

40:24 – TEAM BLACK GOAL. Stewart didn’t miss on his next opportunity. After getting the puck from Adam Foote near center ice, Stewart finds himself on a breakaway and beats Budaj with a high shot

38:10 – TEAM GREY GOAL. A big hit by David Koci leaves Jonas Holos a little shaken up. The hit came during a delayed offside call and Grey is awarded a penalty shot for roughing. Zach Cohen takes the attempt and beats Anderson.

35:50 – TEAM BLACK GOAL. Galiardi gains the zone, bides his time and leaves a drop pass for Colby Cohen. Cohen one-times the shot for a goal

33:50 – After a tripping penalty on Black, Luke Walker’s penalty shot attempt is denied by Anderson

32:10 – The physicality level has been turned up. Kyle Quincey puts a big hit on Matt Ford, while Joel Chouinard follows up with a body check on Ben Walter

31:11 – TEAM BLACK GOAL. Black takes a 3-1 lead after Paul Stastny makes a spinning pass to Stewart, who buries the puck

30:10 – Quincey and Daniel Winnik get in the first scrap of camp, with Winnik falling on top of Quincey after just a few seconds

29:36 – Goalie change for Grey: John Grahame comes in for Budaj

28:06 – The two biggest guys on the ice, Grey’s Patrick Bordeleau and Black’s David Koci, collide near the blue line

25:16 – TEAM BLACK GOAL. John-Michael Liles goes on the offensive and beats Ryan Wilson to a loose puck in front of Grahame. Liles reaches out and gets enough of the puck to poke it into the net for a 4-1 Black lead

20:35 – Brandon Maxwell takes over for Craig Anderson in the Black goal

15:10 -  Wacey Hamilton sets up Winnik with a cross-crease pass, but Grahame slides over and gets enough of the attempt to turn it away

13:31 – Jason Bacashihua replaces Grahame for Team Grey

13:10 – TEAM BLACK GOAL – Stastny makes it a 5-1 game, with an assist going to Chris Stewart

5:45 – Mike Carman knocks over Chris Stewart just after Stewart chips the puck into Black’s offensive zone

2:18 – A little scrum in front of the Black goal, with all 10 players (plus Maxwell) congregating. Cameron Gaunce and Justin Mercier seem to be the primary players involved

0:00 – Final score, Black 5, Grey 1

TEAM BLUE 3, TEAM BLACK 0
*The final scrimmage was 40 minutes long due to time constraints

40:00 – Trevor Cann starts in net for Team Blue, Craig Anderson opens in goal for Team Black

36:45 – Anderson stops his first major test of the scrimmage, turning aside a slap shot by Ryan O’Reilly from the top of the left circle

29:45 – Team Black’s Kevin Porter has a quality scoring chance, but his shot goes off the post

23:34 – TEAM BLUE GOAL. Brandon Yip gets his squad on the board with his third goal of the day, this one coming after he blasted a one-timer from the top of the right faceoff circle. Ryan O’Reilly draws the assist

17:32 – Brandon Maxwell enters the game for Team Black, while Calvin Pickard takes over the Team Blue net

16:15 – Blue’s Philippe Dupuis heads up the ice on a 2-on-1 with Mark Olver, but Black defenseman Adam Foote plays it well and allows Maxwell to make an easy stop

14:15 – Porter is tripped by Julian Talbot, leading to a penalty shot. Porter misses wide left on his attempt

13:00 – TEAM BLUE GOAL. David Jones shelves a shot over Maxwell’s glove to stake Team Blue to a 2-0 lead

6:57 – Jones gets another opportunity, as he uses his speed to get the angle on the Black defense. Jones thentries to center a pass to Olver, but Maxwell breaks it up

3:18 – TEAM BLUE GOAL. Talbot rounds out the scoring by depositing a feed from Michael Bournival
