They Said It...

“I knew it was close, just like the one they disallowed the other night. It was close enough that I didn’t know for sure. I put my hands up because I thought it was in and fortunately it was.”

-Ryan Stoa, on his goal that was initially waved off but later confirmed after a video review during Monday’s win over St. Louis. Stoa also had an apparent goal disallowed during last Thursday’s game against Nashville

Stat Of The Week

With Paul Stastny being named to the NHL All-Star Game roster on Wednesday, he and his father, Peter, will become just the eighth father-son tandem in NHL history to play in the All-Star Game. Peter played in six NHL All-Star Games during his 15-year career from 1980-1995.

Avalanche All-Access

This week, on Avalanche All-Access, host Kyle Keefe and Avalanche forward Brandon Yip play a PGA golf simulator at Swingers Sports Lounge.  Kyle and Brandon play a round of golf at Pebble Beach, with the competition coming down to the last hole.  Plus, our cameras were there as Peter Forsberg took to the ice to practice with the team, and we talk to the Avalanche great as he considers a comeback.  Also, co-host Julie Browman tells fans about the push to get Avalanche license plates on the state ballot, and Mike Haynes has his weekly chat with head coach Joe Sacco.

The NHL’s regular season schedule will go on a five-day hiatus from Thursday through Monday due to the NHL All-Star Break. Matt Duchene and Paul Stastny have been selected to play in the All-Star Game, while rookie defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk will take part in the Honda NHL SuperSkills.

Teams will return to practice on Monday and games will resume Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, the Avs will play their final game before the break when the club hosts the Phoenix Coyotes at Pepsi Center. It will be the second of four meetings between the teams this year, the first of which ended in a 2-0 Coyotes victory on Jan. 6.

Following the break the Avs return to action with a Tuesday night game in St. Louis. Colorado swept both games against the Blues at Pepsi Center this season, which included a 4-3 triumph this past Monday. Overall, the Avalanche has won six straight games over the Blues, outscoring St. Louis by a 31-14 margin during that stretch.

The biggest news coming out of Denver this week was, without a doubt, the announcement that Peter Forsberg would begin skating with Avalanche players in an effort to gauge where he is at physically. The forward first took the ice Saturday morning prior to Colorado’s contest against Boston and has now gone through two full practices with the team.

See the links below for our complete coverage on the Swedish forward.
