In one of the closest Play of the Week contests to date, Paul Stastny's goal on March 14 against the Edmonton Oilers edged out a Peter Budaj save from the same game.
Stastny's power-play tally received 38.92% of the vote, barely squeaking past Budaj's support (36.86%) for a breakaway save on Ales Hemsky.
Also nominated this week was a Ryan Smyth tip-in goal on March 15 against Vancouver (24.23%).
The play now automatically qualifies for Colorado’s year-end “Play of the Year” bracket-style tournament – to be determined by Avalanche fans.
Be sure to check back each Friday during the season, as three new choices for the Avalanche’s “Play of the Week” will be posted for you to vote upon.
Stastny Cuts In – 3/14 @ Edmonton Paul Stastny put the Avs ahead of the Oilers early in the third period with this power-play goal. After gaining the puck at the blue line and avoiding a Denis Grebeshkov hip check, Stastny cut toward the middle and beat Dwayne Roloson with a well-placed wrister.
