Semyon Varlamov Dallas Stars 2017 October 14

ANAHEIM, Calif.--Goaltender Semyon Varlamov is out indefinitely with an injury to his left knee, Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said on Sunday.
Varlamov, 29, was injured late in the third period of Friday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks when Tomas Jurco lost his balance while driving toward the net and slid into him. Varlamov made 30 saves before leaving the 5-0 win with 6:35 remaining. Jonathan Bernier stopped all three shots he faced in relief, as the two netminders combined for the first team shutout in franchise history.
Varlamov will miss the remainder of the regular season and will be reevaluated next week. Bednar said Sunday that he doesn't think the goalie will need surgery.

Bernier, 29, will get the start in Colorado's game this evening at the Anaheim Ducks and is expected to bear most of the responsibilities in net moving forward.
"We feel confident in both of those guys, so Berns is going to get the net," Bednar said on Saturday. "He has stepped up and elevated his game and won us a bunch of hockey games when Varly has been out before, and now we need him to do it again."
In 51 games this season, Varlamov had put together a 24-16-6 record, 2.68 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and two shutouts. The Samara, Russia, native had especially been good the past five weeks, as he sported a 9-3-3 record, 2.11 goals-against average and .939 save percentage in 16 appearances-the most by any goalie in that time.
Bernier is 18-11-2 with a 2.82 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in 33 contests this wyear. He has a 13-4-1 record in his last 18 outings.
