Recap of Game 5:
Wednesday night's Game 5 in Denver turned into a flurry nearing the end of regulation. St. Louis eventually sent the game into overtime where the Avalanche, unfortunately fell, forcing a Game 6.
Wednesday's matchup featured some dominating moves from Nathan MacKinnon who tallied his second career postseason hat trick - both of which have come against St. Louis (also: May 19, 2021). He's the first player in franchise history to register two hat tricks against the same opponent in the playoffs.
With four points in Game 5, MacKinnon has collected 82 career points in the postseason, moving past Peter Stastny to take over third place in Quebec/Colorado history. Wednesday was his fourth career four-point playoff game, surpassing Peter Forsberg for the most in Avalanche/Nordiques history. MacKinnon's 1.39 points-per-game average in the postseason is the third-highest in NHL postseason history.
