NEW YORK (Feb. 19, 2007) -- Detroit Red Wings left wing Henrik Zetterberg, Anaheim Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne and Colorado Avalanche center Joe Sakic have been named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending Feb. 18.
Each Monday, the NHL will recognize three players who delivered the League's top performances over the past week.
FIRST STAR -- HENRIK ZETTERBERG, LW, DETROIT RED WINGS
Zetterberg tied for the League lead with eight points (four goals, four assists) in three games as the Red Wings (38-16-6, 82 points) moved into first place in the Central Division and Western Conference. Zetterberg had a hand in all eight Red Wings goals, starting with an assist in a 6-1 loss to Philadelphia, Feb. 12. In Dallas, on Feb. 14, he scored the game-winning goal and added two assists in a 3-1 victory over the Stars. He tallied three goals, including the game-winner, and one assist in a 4-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes, Feb. 17. Zetterberg leads the Red Wings in scoring with 64 points (30 goals, 34 assists) in 60 games and ranks second on the club and tied for fifth in the NHL with a plus-minus rating of +25.
SECOND STAR - TEEMU SELANNE, RW, ANAHEIM DUCKS
Selanne tied for the League lead with eight points (four goals, four assists). He was held pointless in a 2-0 loss to Colorado, Feb. 13 but rebounded with two goals including the game winner and an assist in a 5-4 overtime victory at Phoenix, Feb. 15. On Feb. 17, he tallied one goal and one assist in a 3-2 overtime victory against the Los Angeles Kings and recorded a goal and two assists in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Kings, Feb. 18. Selanne leads the Ducks and is tied for 10th in overall League scoring with 71 points (36 goals, 35 assists) in 60 games.
THIRD STAR - JOE SAKIC, C, COLORADO AVALANCHE
Sakic tied for the League lead with eight points (two goals, six assists) in four games as the Avalanche (28-27-4, 60 points) went 2-2-0 for the week. Sakic recorded one assist on Feb. 12 as Colorado defeated the Anaheim Ducks 2-0. On Feb. 15, he tallied two goals and three assists including his 600th career NHL goal in a 7-5 victory over the Calgary Flames. Sakic recorded an assist in back-to-back losses to Calgary on Feb. 17 (5-2) and Vancouver on Feb. 18 (5-4). Sakic leads the Avalanche and sits 12th in overall League scoring with 70 points (26-44--70) in 59 games played.
