Sakic Dominant Versus Calgary

by Staff Writer / Colorado Avalanche
If Colorado’s first divisional match-up of the season – coupled with the fact that the Avalanche is undefeated at home – isn’t enough incentive to pique fans’ interest, there’s yet another running subplot surrounding tonight’s game against the Flames.

While 614 goals, 980 assists and 1,594 points are nothing to scoff at, Avalanche captain Joe Sakic has seemingly made a career out of playing against Calgary.

Of those Hall-of-Fame-worthy numbers, Sakic has 98 points (38g/60a) in 74 games against Calgary, the highest scoring total versus any opponent during his career. It’s also the most points of any active player against the Flames (the next closest is Trevor Linden with 69).

Sakic’s 98 points are tied for the second-most versus one team in franchise history – trailing only Peter Stastny’s 115 career points against the Hartford/Carolina franchise.

During the 2006-07 campaign, Sakic continued his dominance against the Flames, recording 20 points (5g/15a) in eight games, the most points of any NHL player against a single opponent last season.

That performance also tied Sakic for the franchise record for most points against a single team in one season, while his 15 assists set a new franchise mark.
