Andrew Raycroft's big stop on Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg took home Avalanche Play of the Week honors for the Dec. 12-18 timeframe. The netminder's save garnered 48.28% of fan voting.
Raycroft beat out Jordan Leopold's penalty shot goal (29.15%) and Wojtek Wolski's breakaway tally (22.57%). In a Play of the Week first, all three nominees this week came from Colorado's 3-2 win over Detroit on Dec. 15.
The play now automatically qualifies for Colorado’s year-end “Play of the Year” bracket-style tournament – to be determined by Avalanche fans.
Be sure to check back each Friday during the season, as three new choices for the Avalanche’s “Play of the Week” will be posted for you to vote upon.
Raycroft Stops Zetterberg - 12/15 @ Detroit Only seconds after a Colorado penalty had expired early in the second period, Detroit’s Brian Rafalski sent a hard pass down low to Pavel Datsyuk, who was stationed to Andrew Raycroft’s right. The netminder was lining up to stop a possible shot from Datsyuk, but the forward instead dropped a pass to linemate Henrik Zetterberg low in the left faceoff circle. Zetterberg blasted a one-timer, but Raycroft snared the puck with his glove to maintain Colorado’s 2-0 lead.
