Nikita Zadorov Buffalo Sabres 170216

For the first time during the road trip, the Colorado Avalanche had the entire team meet at the arena on the morning of the game. While the club didn't hold an official morning skate, it did hold meetings at the home rink of the Buffalo Sabres.

9:30 a.m.: The first bus leaves the Avs' downtown Buffalo hotel and makes its way to KeyBank Center. Only a few players took the first bus as the majority of the team elected to go on the second trip, which left at 10:00 a.m. It took the bus 10 minutes to get to the rink from the hotel.
10:30 a.m.: The team holds a meeting to discuss the game that night against the Sabres. With the Avalanche having practiced in Buffalo the previous day, the video session wasn't as intensive as much of the details were covered on Wednesday.
11:30 a.m.: Colorado has an optional skate with 10 players taking part. Both goaltenders go out on the ice, as well as defenseman Erik Johnson, who has now skated for three consecutive days as he tries to recover from a broken leg suffered in early December.
As the players hit the ice, the rest of the team gets back on the bus and returns to the hotel for a pregame meal and nap.
12:33 p.m.: Following the skate, the players shower, get dressed and take the second bus back to the hotel. Once again, it is about a 10-minute trip to the hotel from the KeyBank Center. Once there, the second group also eats a little food and grabs some sleep as well.
4:30 p.m.: The first bus heads to the rink carrying players and staff for that's night's game, which begins in three more hours. Colorado's second bus departs from the team hotel at 5:15 p.m. Once at the arena, the players get their equipment ready and go through final special teams meetings before warming up.
7:39 p.m.: The puck drops. The start of the game is a little later than normal with it being a nationally televised contest on NBCSN.
The Avalanche had a strong start, but the Sabres gained momentum with back-to-back power plays in the opening frame. Buffalo would finally capitalize during its third man advantage early in the second period and added another tally late in the third to pull out the 2-0 win.
10:11 p.m.: Two hours and 32 minutes after the opening faceoff, the final horn sounds and the Avs pack up after their fourth loss of the road trip. Forty minutes later, the club's buses leave the arena and head to the airport for its trip to Carolina.
11:52 p.m.: The Avalanche's charter plane takes off from the Buffalo airport and goes directly south to North Carolina. On the flight, the Avs eat dinner and rest up for the second half of the back to back on Friday, while the coaches go over video from the contest against the Sabres.
12:54 a.m.: Colorado's plane lands in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the players, coaches and staff load up onto buses and head to the hotel.
1:28 a.m.: The Avs arrive at the hotel for the night and quickly go up to their rooms for some sleep before turning their focus to the Carolina Hurricanes.
