NEW YORK/TORONTO (March 2, 2007) - The National Hockey League (NHL) and National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) online game-worn jersey auction has earned $385,730 to be distributed to the Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation and NHL club charities. The Pittsburgh Penguins took two honors, generating the top team total $37,170, and the leading individual figure of $12,131 for the jersey worn by sophomore center Sidney Crosby. Other notable final bids include jerseys from Crosby's Pittsburgh teammate Evgeni Malkin ($7,520), and Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals ($6,020).
The 2007 Teammates For Kids Auction featured more than 600 authentic jerseys. Each NHL player, on each of the 30 NHL team rosters wore the special jersey, during one select home game in January. As a result of every player's involvement in the auction, the NHL became the first professional sports league to achieve 100% athlete participation in the Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation.

"This league-wide jersey auction highlights the level of commitment that the players, the NHLPA, the NHL and its Member Clubs have towards improving the lives of children," Garth Brooks said. "I'm very grateful to the fans who have supported this auction and children's charities."
In addition to the jersey auction, more than 200 NHL players have made commitments to contribute to the Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation by donating a pre-determined sum based on selected on-ice performance categories such as goals scored, assists made, goaltender saves or team wins.
In November 2005, the National Hockey League Players' Association and National Hockey League jointly selected the Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation as the official children's charity of the NHL and NHLPA. The partnership focuses on the Top Shelf Teammates program, a division of the Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation, which contributes financial resources to non-profit organizations that benefit children's health, education and inner-city services. Since its inception, NHL players have donated more than $2.5 million.
