Cale Makar St. Louis Blues 24 April 2021

Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar contributed on each of the Colorado Avalanche's three goals on Saturday afternoon to extend their respective point streaks.
MacKinnon has now found the scoresheet in 13 straight games, while Makar tied his career-long point streak at five outings. Both players produced one goal and two assists in the Avalanche's 5-3 loss versus the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center.

It was Makar's fourth three-point performance of the season and the seventh of his career, while MacKinnon now owns 44 such outings in his 565-game tenure in the league. The center has registered three points in back-to-back contests and has accomplished the feat seven times this year.
MacKinnon's 13-game streak is the longest active run in the NHL and is tied for the second longest of the season, with only the Carolina Hurricanes' Dougie Hamilton having a better run at 14 games. It is the third time in his career that he has recorded a point streak of 13 games (also 2013-14 and 2019-20) and one shy of matching his personal best of 14 that he set from Feb. 24 to March 22, 2018 and tied during last season's playoffs.

COL@STL: MacKinnon rockets Makar one-timer in for PPG

The Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, native has eight goals and 16 assists during his current run and owns 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists) in his last 21 games, presently tied for the most in the league in that time (since March 12).
MacKinnon's two helpers in Saturday's matinee extended his career-high assist streak to eight outings and marked a new long for the campaign by an Avalanche player. Gabriel Landeskog had a career-high seven-game assist streak from March 14-25.
For Makar, it was his third regular-season point streak of five contests in his two-year career. His previous such stretches came on Oct. 3-14, 2019 and earlier this season from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2.

COL@STL: Makar buries Burakovsky's one-timer for PPG

The sophomore defenseman played a central role in giving the Avalanche a 2-0 lead just 3:01 after the opening faceoff. He began the game's scoring 97 seconds in on a one-timer off a pass from Andre Burakovsky during a power play and then set up the team's second goal when Gabriel Landeskog finished his wraparound chance moments later.
"The last game, I think I wrapped one and it went straight through the crease," Makar said postgame. "That one I was just trying to kind of get it on net and put it in, luckily Landy was right there. He kind of knew what was going to happen, and he was able to put that one in."

The Calgary, Alberta, native has helpers in all five contests of his current run, which also matches the longest assist streak of his career (Oct. 3-14, 2019).
In his last 10 outings, Makar has two goals and 11 assists, and his 13 points in April are presently tied for the most in the league by a defenseman for the month (Washington Capitals' John Carlson and New York Rangers' Adam Fox).
Makar ranks eighth among all D-men in scoring this season with 35 points (five goals, 30 assists) but is first in points per game at 1.06, the only rear guard averaging more than a point per contest.

FINALE WITH ST. LOUIS ON MONDAY

The Avalanche wraps up its eight-game season series against the Blues on Monday at Enterprise Center.
Colorado, which is playing an opponent four straight times on the road for the first time in franchise history, had won five straight games versus St. Louis prior to Saturday's outing. The Avs' five wins against the Blues this year are their most ever in a single season.
"We have a recipe for success against these guys, but we have to be better at it," said head coach Jared Bednar. "We got to be more disciplined. Their power play is really starting to go, and they've got some dangerous guys there. It's a matter of commitment, discipline and execution. I believe our guys will bounce back. We did some things tonight that we probably could have won the hockey game, but like I said, we left it to chance. We definitely don't want to do that come Monday."
The Blues will be the fourth divisional opponent that the Avalanche will have finished its season series with in 2020-21. Colorado also has four games remaining against both the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks and two versus the Vegas Golden Knights.

POSTGAME NOTES

Andre Burakovsky had two assists to record his second consecutive multi-point game and his 10th such performance of the season. He scored two goals against St. Louis on Thursday.
The loss snapped Colorado's five-game winning streak and a stretch of five straight road wins, the longest of the season. The Avs are now 10-2-0 in their last 12 games, 18-2-2 in their last 22 contests and 22-4-3 in their last 29.
It was the final afternoon game of the season, as the Avs finished 4-2-1 in matinee contests.
The Avalanche went 2-for-5 on the power play, the fifth-straight game it has notched a man-advantage tally. The club is 6-for-21 (28.6 percent) in that span. Colorado has now scored multiple power-play goals in eight games this year.
