The Lake Erie Monsters recorded their first win in franchise history on Saturday (Oct. 20) with a 3-2 victory over the Syracuse Crunch. Lake Erie was 0-6 heading into Saturday's road contest, having lost five of those at home in Cleveland.

The Monsters jumped on the board early, as left wing Cody McLeod scored midway through the first period.  He was assisted by Mark Rycroft and Cody McCormick.  Right wing David Jones posted his first goal of the year, scoring on the power play at the 6:04 mark of the second period off passes from Kyle Cumiskey and Mike Vernace.

Syracuse recorded the next two scores to even the game in the third period before McLeod netted the game winner at 15:17 of the final frame.  Codey Burki and Rycroft assisted on the goal.

Tyler Weiman stopped 40-of-42 shots to record the victory in net, while McLeod now leads Lake Erie with five points (4g/1a) in seven games.

The Monsters return to action on Saturday, Oct. 27th, with a road game against the Iowa Stars.

In other news from Cleveland, the American Hockey League announced on Thursday that Lake Erie Monsters defenseman Dale Purinton has been suspended for 25 games as a result of delivering a hit to the head of Iowa Stars forward Marius Holtet during an AHL game on Oct. 17.
Purinton was assessed a match penalty at 20:00 of the second period under AHL Rule 47.14 for punching an unsuspecting opponent and causing injury. He will miss Lake Erie’s next 25 regular-season games and will be eligible to return on Dec. 29.
