DENVER, Colo. - Colorado Avalanche goalie Vitaly Kolesnik was named to the Kazakhstan Olympic ice hockey team this afternoon and will represent his country at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy.
Kolesnik, 26, has started six games for the Avalanche since being recalled from Lowell of the American Hockey League on Dec. 6. He has compiled a 3-3-0 record with a 2.99 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage with the Avs.
A member of the Kazakhstan national team since 1999, Kolesnik will be making his first appearance at the Olympic Games. He did compete for Team Kazakhstan at the 2005 World Championships this past spring, where he ranked third among all netminders with a .952 save percentage.
