Colorado Avalanche New Jersey Devils Vladislav Kamenev rookie

CENTENNIAL, Colo.--Luck hasn't been on Vladislav Kamenev's side when it has come to the injury bug the past two seasons.
After being limited to three NHL games and 17 American Hockey League contests last year due to a broken arm, the young forward will once again have to battle back from a long-term ailment.

Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar revealed following Monday's practice at Family Sports Center that Kamenev will have shoulder surgery and is out indefinitely. The injury occurred in the second period of Colorado's loss at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night.
"It's long term, might be for the year," Bednar said of the center from Orsk, Russia. "Don't know the whole scenario there."
Kamenev is in his second season with the Avalanche organization after being acquired on Nov. 5, 2017 from the Nashville Predators in a three-team trade that also included the Ottawa Senators. He ended up missing 50 NHL games last year after getting hurt in his Avs debut on Nov. 16, 2017 against the Washington Capitals.
He's appeared in a career-high 23 NHL games this season and had registered two goals and three assists while averaging 9:03 of ice time. His first marker came on Nov. 1 at the Calgary Flames.
The Avs recalled A.J. Greer from the AHL Colorado Eagles on Monday afternoon to help replenish their offensive depth with Kamenev out and Alex Kerfoot missing the on-ice session as well. Colorado only had 11 forwards partake in Monday's near-hour practice.
"He went to the doctor's office. He was getting looked at," Bednar said of Kerfoot's absence. "We'll have an update on him possibly tomorrow."

Jared Bednar gives an update on his team

Greer has played 23 contests with the Avalanche over the last three seasons and suited up in his lone outing this year on Nov. 2 at the Vancouver Canucks. He has 21 points (nine goals and 12 assists) through 20 outings with the Eagles this campaign.
Also on the Avs' training table is defenseman Mark Barberio, who has missed the past five contests with an upper-body injury. He didn't travel with the team on its most recent four-game road trip, but he was working out and skating on his own back in Denver during that time.
Bednar didn't have an update on when the blueliner could be game ready again.
Following a week on the road, Colorado hosts the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday in its first home game since Nov. 30 and only its 12th at Pepsi Center this season.
The Avs have played 19 of their last 28 contests away from Denver but now begin a stretch of home cooking over the next four weeks. Nine of Colorado's next 12 outings are at home, with each road game just being a one-off trip.
