Hockey Weekend Across America

by Staff Writer / Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche is proud to participate in the second annual Hockey Weekend Across America, a three-day, nationwide celebration of the sport of hockey. Through this unique initiative, USA Hockey hopes to grow the sport of hockey, from the grassroots up to the NHL levels, and introduce the game to new fans. This year's event is taking place Feb. 13-15.

During Friday's game against Montreal, the Avalanche celebrated "Wear Your Jersey Day" with special ticket offers for any child 16 and younger wearing their youth team jersey. But the Avs' participation doesn't end there. Take a look at what else is on tap this weekend.

Saturday, Feb. 14: Bring a Friend to the Rink
Hyland Hills Hockey will host a OneGoal Skate for any child interested in playing ice hockey. The OneGoal program strives to introduce hockey to young people through introductory hockey and skating lessons. The OneGoal sessions will be from 8:00-9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. at the Westminster Promenade Ice Center. All equipment will be provided. Contact David Evens at dsevens@hotmail.com or 720.840.9015 for more information.

Sunday, Feb. 15: Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes Day
Youth players are invited to send an email to heroes@pepsicenter.com, explaining who their hockey hero is and why. This person can be a favorite coach, timekeeper, official, player or anyone else that is influential in the youth player's hockey life.

      *  The writer of the best email will receive a suite to the Atlanta Thrashers vs. Colorado Avalanche game on March 10. The suite includes 20 tickets that can be shared with family, friends and/or teammates.

      *  The writer of the second-place entry will win four tickets to the March 10 game and an Avalanche team-signed jersey.

      *  The writer of the third-place entry will win four tickets to the March 10 game and two Avalanche hats.

Emails must be received by Sunday, Feb. 22 and should be no longer than 150 words.
